Le trèfle est utile, mais le nom commun ne suffit pas. Un gazon classique demande eau, tonte et attention. Clemson HGIC rappelait en juillet 2026 qu’un turfgrass a besoin d’environ 1 inch d’arrosage par semaine pour garder son aspect, et qu’en période sèche il faut tondre plus haut et vérifier l’humidité du sol. Le microtrèfle est généralement un cultivar bas de white clover, Trifolium repens. Il fixe l’azote, comble des trous, peut réduire les engrais et nourrit les pollinisateurs s’il fleurit. OSU Extension décrit l’ecolawn comme un mélange de graminées et plantes basses, avec clover/microclover, yarrow et fescues, demandant moins d’eau après installation. La nuance: l’installation demande quand même de l’eau. UW/CSU rappellent que le trèfle n’est pas toujours drought-proof et que sa consommation d’eau peut être proche de Kentucky bluegrass dans certains cas. Les herbicides broadleaf ne sont plus compatibles. Avant de semer, regardez l’usage, le climat, le soleil, l’ombre, les enfants, les chiens, les règles HOA et le statut invasif. Parfois le bon choix est une petite zone test, pas toute la pelouse. En juillet, mieux vaut tondre plus haut, protéger arbres et jeunes plantations, puis planifier le semis pour une période plus fraîche.
