# Healing Syria: A New Chapter After the Terrorism Designation

> This article is an attempt to help my friends in Syria, their families, and their society in general.

Syria has suffered through years of war, displacement, and hardship. But a new chapter is beginning.

In May 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at a meeting hosted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Saudi leader supported Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria, creating hope for economic recovery and reconstruction. <Cite refs={\["turn946538search0","turn946538search1"\]}/>

Then, on **August 24, 2026, the United States officially removed Syria from its list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.** The decision followed a review period and cited changes and counterterrorism commitments by Syria’s new government. This designation concerned the Syrian state; it did not mean that every terrorist group or security threat had disappeared. <Cite refs={\["turn946538search3","turn946538search2"\]}/>

## Syria’s struggles are not over

After more than a decade of conflict, millions of Syrians still need help. Homes and infrastructure have been damaged, families remain separated, and many people struggle to find food, clean water, medical care, education, and stable employment. Children have lost years of schooling, and many families who return home face difficult conditions. <Cite refs={\["turn946538search4","turn946538search5"\]}/>

According to UNHCR’s December 2025 figures, approximately **4.3 million Syrian refugees were registered in neighboring countries**, while millions more remained displaced inside Syria. <Cite refs={\["turn946538search4"\]}/>

Political progress matters, but it cannot heal every wound. Rebuilding a country also means rebuilding trust, supporting families, helping children recover, and giving communities the tools to create a peaceful future.

We can contribute through humanitarian aid, education, healthcare, clean-water projects, community support, and carefully developed AI and virtual-reality tools that complement professional care.

**We should gather to heal Syria.**

Let us turn a new political chapter into a human one: fewer families suffering, more children learning, more communities rebuilding, and more people finding hope. Syria deserves more than an end to isolation. Its people deserve the chance to live, heal, and thrive.
